Amy Christine Dumas is a retired professional wrestler and vocalist. She is best known as
Lita from the WWE. She performed for the company full time from 2000 to 2006 and occasionally makes part-time or one-off appearances.
Amy started her wrestling career under the ring name
Angelica. In 1998, she went to Mexico and trained with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). She returned to the states and began performing in the independent circuit: National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling (MACW), New Dimension Wrestling (NDW), Music City Wrestling (MCW), MCW Pro Wrestling (MCW), and Future Of Wrestling (FOW). In 1999, she signed with Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) under the ring name
Miss Congeniality. Her televised debut was July 18, 1999, at the Heat Wave Pay-Per-View. She attended Dory Funk, Jr.'s wrestling school, The Funkin' Conservatory, and graduated in August 1999. The same month she was signed to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). She spent six months in ECW and made her final appearance on October 23, 1999.
On the July 5, 1999 episode of
Raw is War, Amy made her debut as one of the Godfather's "hos." She made her official debut as Lita on the February 13, 2000, episode of
Sunday Night Heat, alongside Essa Rios in his match against Gillberg. During the match, Lita mimicked Essa Rios' moves, notably the hurricanrana and moonsault. Essa Rios and Lita were paired up until the May 22, 2000, episode of
Raw, where Lita would catch Essa Rios conversing with the Godfather's "hos". Lita caused him to lose his match later that night. On the May 25, 2000, episode of
Smackdown!, Essa Rios power bombed Lita in the ring. The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff Hardy) came to her rescue.
On the July 15, 2000, episode of
Smackdown!, Lita returned the favor and helped out the Hardy Boyz during their match against T & A (Test and Albert) and their manager, Trish Stratus. This started their long-term feud, which lasted until they both retire from WWE in 2006. They had their first main event on the July 31, 2000, episode of
Raw is War, in a tag team match. In the main event, on the August 21, 2000, episode of
Raw is War, Lita won her first WWF Women's Championship against Stephanie McMahon.
Lita retained the championship until the November 2, 2000, episode of
Smackdown!, after losing it to Ivory. She unsuccessfully challenged Dean Malenko WWF Light Heavyweight Championship on the December 4, 2000, episode of
Raw Is War, and again for a non-title match on the February 19, 2001, episode of
Raw is War. In the main event, on the April 9, 2001, episode of
Raw is War, Lita took a pedigree from Triple H and four chair shots to the back from Stone Cold Steve Austin. She challenged Chyna for the WWF Women's Championship on the April 30, 2001, episode of
Raw Is War, at Judgment Day, where she was unsuccessful. She helped Trish Stratus on the July 16, 2001, episode of
Smackdown! and teamed up opposite Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson, who were wrestlers from World Championship Wrestling (WCW). They were succesful at beating them in the first tag team bra and panties match at Invasion. At Survivor Series in November, Lita took place in a six-pack challenge for the WWF Women's Championship, where Trish Stratus would win the match. In December, Matt and Jeff Hardy challenged each other to a match at Vengeance, with Lita as the special guest referee. Matt Hardy lost, but won the following night on
Raw, against Jeff Hardy and Lita in a handicap match. On the December 17, 2001, episode of
Raw, Lita was tossed off the stage by The Undertaker. Taking her off WWF television for several weeks.
Lita and the Hardy Boyz returned at the Royal Rumble in January of 2002, attacking The Undertaker, unsuccessfully eliminating him. Lita attempt to win the WWF Women's Championship at Wrestlemania 18, with Jazz retaining the championship. On the March 25, 2002, episode of
Raw, she was the first female to be drafted in WWF's first Draft.
On April 6, 2002, Amy suffered a stinger while on the set of
Dark Angel. She was dropped by the stunt double while performing the hurricanrana. This caused her to get three cracks in her vertebrae. On April 30, 2002, she underwent neck surgery. She made four appearances on
Raw and one on
Velocity between June and September. She became part of the color commentary on the October 6, 2002, episode of
Sunday Night Heat, until April of 2003.
Between 2000 and 2003, Lita performed on the independent circuit: International Wrestling Association Puerto Rico (IWA Puerto Rico), Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW), National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA), and Maryland Championship Wrestling.
Amy founded the animal charity, Amy Dumas Operation Rescue and Education (A.D.O.R.E.), in 2003.
On the April 21, 2003, episode of
Raw, Eric Bischoff fired Lita from color commentator because she wouldn't pose for
Playboy, removing her from
Sunday Night Heat. She made her in-ring return on the September 15, 2003, episode of
Raw, saving Trish Stratus from Gail Kim and Molly Holly and defeating them at Unforgiven on September 21, 2003. After winning the fatal-4-way on the October 27, 2003, episode of
Raw, Lita would unsuccessfully win the WWE Women's Championship against Molly Holly at Survivor Series. The next night on
Raw, after being moved from
Smackdown! to
Raw, Matt Hardy informed Lita that he felt she was "selfish" and caused her to lose the first women's steel cage match on the November 24, 2003, episode of
Raw. On the December 8, 2003, episode of
Raw, Trish Stratus and Lita confront Chris Jericho and Christian about their bet to sleep with them. Resulting in the "Battle of the Sexes" match at Armageddon and the rematch the following night on
Raw.
On the April 5, 2004, episode of
Raw, Lita won win the battle royal for the WWE Women's Championship at Backlash, where she would lose against Victoria. On the April 19, 2004, April 26, 2004, and May 3, 2004, episodes of
Raw, Matt Hardy rescued Lita from Kane's unwanted attempts and successful kidnapping. On June 13, 2004, at Bad Blood, she lost to Trish Stratus in a Fatal Four Way match for the WWE Women's Championship. The next night on
Raw, Lita announces that she's pregnant. On the August 9, 2004 episode of
Raw, it's revealed that Kane is the father. On the August 23 episode of
Raw, Kane married Lita after winning the "Till Death Do Us Part" match against Matt Hardy at Summerslam. Lita suffered a miscarriage on the September 13, 2004, episode of
Raw after Gene Snitsky hit Kane with a chair, causing him to fall on Lita.
Lita challenged Trish Stratus for the WWE Women's Championship at Survivor Series but was disqualified after hitting Trish Stratus with a chair. In the main event, on the December 6, 2004, episode of
Raw, Lita would inevitably win her second WWE Women's Championship. Their rematch for the Championship took place at New Year's Revolution on January 9, 2005. During the match, Lita tore her left ACL after performing a Thesz press off the ring apron. With her unable to finish the match, she lost the championship to Trish Stratus.
Lita returned on the March 7, 2005, episode of
Raw, after Christy Hemme challenged Trish Stratus for the WWE Women's Championship at Wrestlemania 21. She mentored Christy Hemme until her match against Trish Stratus. On the May 16, 2005, episode of
Raw, Lita would help Edge win the
Raw Gold Rush Tournament and divorce Kane on the May 30, 2005, episode of
Raw. Lita attempted to marry Edge on the June 20, 2005, episode of
Raw, but was interrupted by Kane. On the August 14, 2006, episode of
Raw, Lita won her third WWE Women's Championship against Mickie James.
Trish Stratus challenged Lita on the September 4, 2006, episode of
Raw, for the WWE Women's Championship at Unforgiven, and had a six person intergender tag team match in the main event, later that night. Lita lost the championship at Unforgiven, but won her fourth WWE Women's championship against Mickie James at Cyber Sunday. On the November 20, 2006, episode of
Raw, Lita announced her final match will be at Survivor Series.
Amy formed
The Luchagors in 2006. A punk rock band featuring Amy on vocals, Jay Hedberg on bass, Shane Morton on guitar, and Troy King on drums, later Racci Shay. Their first show was on September 14, 2006, at the Rock-n-Shock event in Atlanta, Georgia. They released their debut album,
The Luchagors, on September 11, 2007. Their final show was on July 31, 2014, at The Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta, Georgia.
Amy made her debut at United Wrestling Federation (UWF) on April 20, 2007, and Family Wrestling Entertainment (FWE) on April 28, 2017. She returned to Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW) on February 25th, 2007, and March 3, 2017. She returned to WWE on the December 10, 2007, episode of
Raw, November 1 2010, episode of
Raw with Pee-wee Herman, presented a Slammy Award to Kelly Kelly on the December 12, 2011, episode of
Raw, and defeated Heath Slater in a intergender no disqualification, no countout match on the July 23, 2012, episode of
Raw.
Lita was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on April 5, 2014. She was a trainer of WWE Tough Enough in 2015 and appeared on the July 13, 2015, episode of
Raw. In 2016 and 2017, she would be a pre-show host, appear on the April 4, 2016, and October 17, 2016, episodes of
Raw, and be a color commentator on August 28, 2017, at the Mae Young Classic. She participated in the first Women's Royal Rumble on January 28, 2018, October 8, October 15, October 29, 2018, episodes of
Raw, and WWE Evolution on October 28, 2018. On the January 14, 2022, episode of
Smackdown!, she announced her participation in the second Women's Royal Rumble, on the January 31, 2022, episode of
Raw, to challenge Becky Lynch to a match for the WWE Raw Women's Championship at Elimination Chamber, and February 7, and 14, 2022, episodes of
Raw.
On the February 6, 2023, episode of
Raw, she returned to team up with Becky Lynch and challenge Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship on the February 27, 2023, episode of
Raw. Alongside Trish Stratus, Becky Lynch and Lita won their first WWE Women's Tag Team Championship together. The following week, Trish Stratus, Lita, and Becky Lynch challenged Bailey, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky to a six-woman tag team match at WrestleMania 39.
In and outside of wrestling, Amy does many events, appearances, and projects. She's been in hundreds of television shows, movies, home videos, video games, magazines, and books. She's had multiple achievements, such as her own home video, released in 2001,
